The Regional Planning Board of Princeton approved Princeton University’s proposed Arts and Transit neighborhood plan at a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 18, by a vote of 9-1. The approval clears the way for the University to break ground in early 2013.

The 2012 edition of the annual report DISCOVERY is available, containing novel research findings, feature articles, books and awards from Princeton University researchers.

From improving financial aid to cultivating leaders who value different people and viewpoints, the Princeton University conference Diversity on Campus: Practices, Policies and Culture examined a spectrum of ways to promote diversity within higher education.

In a lighthearted, plainspoken talk in Richardson Auditorium on December 10, Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia discussed his judicial philosophy of reading the U.S. Constitution on its textual basis and original meaning.

The Princeton University Program in Theater, in partnership with Community House and the Community-Based Learning Initiative, is offering the course “Devising Theater With Youth” this semester. The service-learning course promotes experiential learning for both Princeton University students and a small group of children from Community House, an on-campus after-school program.

Stephanie Tam and Kaitlin Stouffer, two seniors with track records of achievement in academics and research, have been named recipients of the Daniel M. Sachs Class of 1960 Graduating Scholarship, one of the highest awards given to Princeton undergraduates.

This video features three students who are exploring their passions in distinctive ways: Jacinth Greywoode, a pianist who switched his focus from neuroscience to music; Katrina Hacker, a figure skater who competed internationally and hopes to attend medical school; and Carmina Mancenon, an international student who is committed to service in different parts of the globe.

At the Celebrate Princeton Invention reception Nov. 29, the University honored its faculty, staff and student inventors for their role in technology transfer — which includes patenting and licensing of inventions — to bring research innovations to the marketplace.

Members of the University community will have the opportunity to share the holiday spirit through a series of community service initiatives and special events planned for December and January.

Princeton University senior Jake Nebel is among the 34 American college students who have been named 2013 Marshall Scholars. The Marshall Scholarship covers the cost of graduate study and living at a British university for two to three years. Nebel, a philosophy major from Winter Park, Fla., plans to pursue a master’s degree in philosophy at the University of Oxford.

Princeton University’s Office of Career Services is marking its 100th anniversary this year. While a lot has changed since the office was founded as the “Self-Help Bureau” in 1912, one thing remains the same: Career Services’ commitment to assisting Princeton students and alumni as they develop and pursue their career goals.

Senior Flannery Cunningham has been named a George J. Mitchell Scholar to spend a year studying music composition at University College Cork in Ireland. The Mitchell Scholarships were awarded to 12 students nationwide by the Washington D.C.-based U.S.-Ireland Alliance.
