University forming partnerships in Brazil, Germany and Japan

The University has established a strategic partnership with the University of São Paulo, Brazil, that will offer faculty and students at both institutions increased access to research and learning opportunities. The move comes on the heels of the signing of a similar agreement with Humboldt University in Berlin, and Princeton also is finalizing an agreement with the University of Tokyo.

University assists first responders, area residents after storm

As Princeton Borough and Princeton Township started recovering from the havoc caused by Hurricane Sandy, about 150 first responders working during the storm were provided with free meals by the University’s Dining Services. Local residents whose homes lost power were invited to warm up, recharge phones and other electronic devices and use wireless Internet service at a hospitality center on campus.

Hurricane relief efforts being organized at Princeton

As communities across the East Coast continue to recover from Hurricane Sandy, Princeton University faculty, staff and students are helping organize relief efforts for affected individuals. A Hurricane Sandy supplies drive will collect nonperishable food, clothing, blankets and other items through Nov. 16.

Course focuses on modern political campaigns

The course examines how campaigns affect voters. The primary focus is on the nature of modern campaigns and their impact on people’s reasoning and voting behavior. Students get an overview of different explanations of how people make voting decisions and how people’s voting behavior is best understood.

Bakos receives 2012 Packard Fellowship to film night sky

Gáspár Bakos, a Princeton University assistant professor of astrophysical sciences, was one of 16 researchers nationwide to receive a 2012 Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering. Bestowed by the California-based David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the fellowships are meant to support early-career research with limited funding or reporting requirements. Each fellow will receive a grant of $875,000 over five years.

Presidential search committee launches website for comments

The committee conducting the search for Princeton University’s next president has created a website to provide information about the search and to invite comments and suggestions. The committee will be undertaking other outreach efforts, including open forums and other meetings, both on campus and off. One open forum will take place as part of the regularly scheduled Nov. 12 meeting of the Council of the Princeton University Community.

PPPL wins $12 million grant for computer simulations in fusion research

ChangA center based at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) has won a highly competitive $12.25 million grant to develop computer codes to simulate a key component of the plasma that fuels fusion energy. The five-year DOE award could produce software that helps researchers design and operate facilities to create fusion as a clean and abundant source of energy for generating electricity.
